ORCM and RCRP staff at the Boys and Girls Club in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Office for Regional Conference Ministries (ORCM) and the Regional Conference Retirement Plan (RCRP) partnered with the Alabama Kidney Foundation for a community service project at the Boys & Girls Club in Huntsville, Alabama.
ORCM and RCRP are committed to giving back to the community through periodic service projects and team-building activities. This time we participated in the Alabama Kidney Foundation’s after-school children’s education program, an initiative developed to educate students in grades K-6 about the importance of kidney health.
As part of this campaign, the staff of both entities read and colored with the children the book “Katie Gets a Kidney,” which tells the true story of a little girl who received a kidney and her journey to wellness. In this project we also helped assemble bags with warm blankets and blessing messages which will be gifted to the dialysis patients. ORCM Executive Director, Dana C. Edmond, and RCRP Executive Director, Dr. William T. Cox, presented a financial gift to the Alabama Kidney Foundation, which will be used for dialysis care patient supplies.
Alabama has the nation’s highest incidence rate of kidney transplants and individuals receiving dialysis treatments, with the state experiencing kidney disease at twice the national average.
