Southwest Region Re-Elects Conference Administrators, Makes Departmental Changes

On September 23-24, approximately 450 delegates met at the Keene SDA Church, on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University, in Keene, Texas for the 5th Quadrennial and 26th Regular Session of the Southwest Region Conference.

After the devotional on Sabbath evening, by Elder James Black, retired former North American Division (NAD) Youth Ministries Director and former Southwest Region Youth Director and the President’s Report by President Carlton P. Byrd, the delegates re-elected the Southwest Region administrative team:

Dr. Carlton P. Byrd, President

Elder Jason North, Executive Director/Vice President for Administration

Elder Philip Palmer, Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer

Elder Vanston Archbold, Vice President, Multicultural Ministries

The next day began with a devotional by Elder Brenda Billingy, retired former NAD Associate Ministerial Director. The delegates then proceeded to receive the reports from the other administrative officers and addressed a number of recommendations from the Constitution and Bylaws Committee. Two major recommendations that were adopted by the delegates were changing the terms of office from 4 years to 5 and the elimination of the Organizing Committee and the Nominating Committee meeting in advance of the constituency meeting.

In addition to the re-election of the conference administrators, the delegates voted the following additional persons to serve for the next 5 years:

Elder Tyrone Boyd, Church Ministries Director

Pastor Leslie Soupet,Communications Director

The rest of the departmental directors were referred to the Conference Executive Committee.
