Northeastern Conference Restructured into Two Administrative Districts

Atlantic Union Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Historic Vote to Restructure:

Northeastern Conference to Birth a New Conference Family

In a historic and Spirit-led decision, the Atlantic Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Executive Committee has voted unanimously to approve the restructuring of the Northeastern Conference territory, setting in motion the formation of two distinct administrative units: the re-envisioned Northeastern Conference, which will continue serving the state of New York, and the newly proposed North Atlantic Conference, which will encompass the six New England states.

The missional benefits of restructuring are both profound and far-reaching. By forming two separate Conferences, each area can have leaders who better understand and serve their local communities. These leaders will be able to respond more quickly to the unique needs of the people they serve. This change also helps build closer relationships with local leaders and organizations, making it easier to work together and build trust.

In addition, having two Conferences will make it easier to plant new churches and reach more people with the message of Jesus. It also creates more opportunities to open Adventist schools in the right places, helping us continue our mission to provide strong Christian education across both regions.

“This is a significant season for the Northeastern Conference and for the Atlantic Union as a whole,” said Dr. Eldeen C. King, President of the Northeastern Conference. “What we are witnessing is not merely an administrative adjustment; it is a spiritual and missional realignment. We are stepping into a new chapter of growth, rooted in our enduring commitment to serve God’s people more faithfully and fruitfully.”

Reflecting on the decision, Dr. Abraham J. Jules, President of the Atlantic Union Conference, offered these heartfelt words: “It has been a long journey for the Northeastern Conference leadership to get us to this historic moment where the Atlantic Union Conference Executive Committee voted unanimously for the restructuring of the Northeastern Conference. Many generations of leaders have worked feverishly to make this a reality. Today we all rejoice.”

This milestone is a powerful affirmation of God’s faithfulness and recognition of the sacred responsibility to share the gospel more effectively and to expand the mission with boldness and clarity. Looking ahead, the Northeastern Conference is eager to collaborate closely with the Atlantic Union Conference and the North American Division to bring this vision to fruition.

In keeping with denominational policy, the formation of the new Conference must receive final approval from the North American Division. Once approved, the North Atlantic Conference will launch with nearly 18,000 members across 77 congregations and five schools. The new territory stands united in its commitment to advance the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
