ORCM and RCRP staff spent a day at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madison last week for their quarterly community service project.
Valley View serves mostly seniors, plus some younger patients recovering from strokes, accidents, surgeries, and other medical issues. Many residents rarely get visitors, which can lead to depression.
The center runs activities like bingo, coloring, and crafts to help with recovery and keep spirits up. Our team joined a lively game session, helping residents mark their cards and sharing laughs along the way.
We brought care packages with snacks, drinks, toiletries, and other basics. Beyond handing out supplies, our team members sat with residents, listened to their stories, and spent time with those who don’t often have company.
The afternoon showed how much difference a few hours of attention can make. Several residents who were quiet when we arrived became more talkative and engaged as the games progressed.
This service day gave our teams a chance to step away from daily work routines and connect with the people in our community. Through these simple acts of service, we hoped to share God’s love with those who needed it most.
